Mount Halimun Salak National Park, Indonesia — [10 November 2024] — The Salak Eco Trail Run 4 was successfully held last weekend at Mount Halimun Salak National Park, bringing together over 630 trail runners, outdoor enthusiasts, and eco-tourism supporters from various provinces in Indonesia and abroad. This event was more than just a Trail Run Race; with the theme “Ego to Eco,” this trail run was a collaborative effort to raise awareness about the importance of nature conservation, environmental sustainability, and community involvement in preserving Indonesia’s natural forest, especially the remaining habitat of the Javan Hawk-Eagle.

The race route was designed to showcase the breathtaking landscapes of Halimun Salak National Park, challenging participants with diverse terrains, including dense tropical rainforest trails, waterfalls and rivers, and mountain ridges that are home to the Javan Hawk-Eagle. Each participant enjoyed a unique running experience amidst the pristine beauty of the tropical rainforest in Mount Halimun Salak National Park and the surrounding community agroforestry garden, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of forest conservation.

In addition to the SETR 4 activities, the event also included the release of a Javan Hawk-Eagle and a Chinese Sparrowhawk by the Halimun Salak National Park Authority and the Directorate of PJLKK at the Ministry of Forestry to commemorate National Flora and Fauna Love Day.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the sponsors, partners, and volunteers who played a crucial role in making this event a success. Special thanks to All sponsor for their exceptional support and to our partners for their invaluable contributions in ensuring the smooth execution of the event. We also thank the Mount Halimun Salak National Park management for their support and permission, which made it possible for this event to run safely and in an environmentally friendly manner.

As part of our commitment to conservation, the Salak Eco Trail Run implemented several eco-friendly practices, including waste reduction, low-impact guidelines for participants, and a post-event trail cleanup. We are determined to make the Salak Eco Trail Run a model of sustainable events in Indonesia, not only introducing the wonders of nature but also inspiring conservation awareness.

We are proud to see the tremendous enthusiasm of the participants, both in person and through social media, sharing experiences and building a community that cares more deeply about nature conservation.
